Located in the old South Jacksonville Utilities Company building in San Marco, Aardwolf Brewing Company is a valued member of the ever-growing Jacksonville brewery community.
Its cozy taproom is a favorite for San Marco residents and beer enthusiasts. The taproom’s small and intimate atmosphere is a little different than that of most bars or taprooms. Perhaps most notably, there are no televisions in the taproom itself. (The brewery’s only television is located in the banquet room.)
As a result, it doesn’t necessarily draw the same crowd as the average bar. It’s not really the go-to spot to watch the game, but rather to unwind after a long day at the office.
Aardwolf is also a surprisingly family-friendly brewery; kids are welcome, as are pets as long as they’re on a leash. This also makes a brewery a great pit-stop for anyone walking their dog around the area of Hendricks Ave.
The beer selection at Aardwolf is vast and primarily consists of the brewery’s own offerings, which range from IPAs to copper ales to stouts and more. The brewery also offers wine options on its menu. (Everything we tried was good – ask your bartender for a recommendation based on what you normally like!)
The prices are on-par with those of other breweries. The taproom, as you might expect, does not have a happy hour.
The brewery chooses to not offer a food menu, and instead relies upon booking food trucks for busy days and nights. Luckily for the brewery, the nearby food options are growing. Panera Bread, the new La Nopalera, and V Pizza are now all within close walking distance. The Bearded Pig is nearby on Kings Ave. as well.
Aardwolf has certainly been a treat to young families in San Marco, as well as those who prefer a more laid-back brewery experience.
