Local Producer Alex Moye to Debut New Single, “I Wanna Dance”

Though his family has a long musical history, Alex Moye didn’t always plan on becoming a musician.

In fact, the local dance, house, and EDM producer grew up at Jax Beach, and later Ponte Vedra Beach, with sporadic dreams of being a professional athlete, along with an encouraging plan to take over for his parents at their engineering firm, Waitz & Moye.

But over the past few years, Moye began investing more and more of his time outside of work toward growing and developing his musical talents and as a result, what started as a bucket-list goal of writing one song has, over the past year or two, blossomed into a growing side career as a producer.

Moye released his debut, self-titled EP in late May and he’s since followed it up with several new singles, including the recent “Inspiration.”

Though Moye had been a part of bands in high school, and his father and half-brother were both musicians as well, his true inspiration began when he immersed himself in the world of electronic music.

“In an instrumental song, there are no lyrics but you can still feel the emotion in this type of music that’s universal,” Moye explains. “Regardless of where you’re from or what language you speak, you can feel that same emotion.”

Moye says that Avicii is his biggest musical influence; he felt a certain kinship with the late musician when watching a documentary about his life and career.

Moye’s latest song, “I Wanna Dance,” is a pure dance track built around a guitar loop that he had saved months earlier. Moye says that while his music can vary from more traditional pop to EDM, “I Wanna Dance” is tailor-made for the dance floor.

Of course, in addition to producing, Moye still has his 9-to-5 responsibilities at Waitz & Moye. Over the past few years, as he’s developed his talent, he’s had to do so using whatever free time he has left over after work – leaving little time for socializing or relaxation.

“It definitely hasn’t been easy,” says Moye. “I’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices to be able to make the time to do this.”

“It’s been worth it,” he adds, “because I’ve been able to build this project that’s been really fulfilling me.”

Moye hopes that his story can inspire others to pursue their dreams even if they’ve already got a traditional 9-to-5 job, referring to the “misconception” that you have to be young and have endless free time to make it work.

“If they’ve been thinking of writing a book for years, or chasing after whatever goal they’ve been thinking about for years, maybe they’ll finally say, ‘You know what, I can do this,” explains Moye.

“Make the time for it and just go for it.”

Moye’s new single, “I Wanna Dance,” will be available on October 9th on Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play. You can also learn more about Alex and his music at his official website.
