In the second episode of The Coastal’s mini-video series, Jax in Under :60, we take a quick look at The Urban Garden in downtown Jax. Watch the video above to learn all about the location.
The Urban Garden, located at 45 West Bay Street, is different from just about anything you’ll see in downtown Jacksonville. The interior of the building houses a beautiful indoor courtyard with deck flooring, and with seating available for those who wish to use the area as a meeting or working space. The renovation happened within the past year, and has completely transformed the space.
Prior to the garden being designed, the building was in dire financial straits. Now, it boasts three tenants: a two-story Daniel James Salon, Urban Grind Coffee Shop, and fellow Jacksonville magazine Folio Weekly. Daniel James was there prior to the renovations, and chose to stick around afterward.
The Urban Garden is something you’d never know about without walking inside; from the exterior, it looks like a regular downtown building, no different than anything else along its neighboring stretch of Bay Street. It’s just another example of the hidden treasures that can be found in Jacksonville, if you know where to look.
Jax in Under :60 is The Coastal’s new mini-video series dedicated to finding and showcasing cool and interesting places in the Jacksonville area that many residents may not have seen or heard of before. Watch the first installment of the series, which focuses on the Myrtle Avenue Tunnel and its history as part of the former streetcar system in Jacksonville.
