Nestled between 1904 Music Hall and the dormant Cowford Chophouse project, Spliff’s Gastropub is within convenient distance of several office buildings in the southernmost area of downtown.
We decided to try out Spliff’s for lunch and share our thoughts.
The location is small, but it wasn’t overcrowded when we were there. A bar with numerous taps, some from local breweries, also serves as the ordering counter.
The menu features a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, grilled cheeses, and its signature item, macaroni and cheeses. Cheese lovers will feel right at home here.
Our order took around five minutes to come out. We sampled the mac and cheese and one of their “munchies” plates, the “twisted potatoes”. The mac and cheese was a little lacking on cheese, in all honesty, but it was still quite good. The potatoes were seasoned excellently, and the bacon was a delicious added touch.
The place is a great lunch spot, but it’s also rather active at night. Spliff’s hosts an open mic comedy night on Tuesdays, and trivia on Wednesdays. Additionally, live music is featured on Fridays and Saturdays in their beer garden.
Whether you’re looking for a downtown lunch spot (and maybe a quick drink as well), or trying to find an active late night eatery, Spliff’s is a great spot for lovers of cheesy food.
