The Jacksonville Icemen have officially clinched a berth in the upcoming 2019 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs as of this past weekend.
The local minor-league hockey team’s spot in the playoffs was secured with a Sunday afternoon loss by the Atlanta Gladiators, who incidentally also lost to the Icemen on Saturday. The Icemen currently sit in third place in the South division with a record of 36-29-2-2; the Florida Everblades and Orlando Solar Bears have also clinched playoff spots in the same division.
This will be the Icemen’s first trip to the ECHL playoffs, and it comes in the team’s second year of action. It’ll also be the first playoff hockey action in Jacksonville since the Barracudas of the SPHL played their last season in 2008.
Tickets for the first two home games of the first round of the playoffs – which are presented by SmileDirectClub – will be available on Ticketmaster starting on Thursday morning. The team will also announce playoff ticket packages in the next few days.
Only time will tell whether the Icemen are able to replicate the postseason success of Jacksonville’s other minor-league sports franchises.
