The Jacksonville chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is working to bring attention and funding to its programs with its upcoming “Car Show for a Cause” event.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 22 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at CenterState Bank on King St. Trophies will be given to the winning cars as chosen by the audience – the entry fee for the contest is $15 if paid in advance, and $20 on the day of the event.
DJ Chris of Sunshine State Chevelles will be the event’s MC. There will be raffle contests, local artists and vendors, and a kids zone featuring a bounce house.
NAMI Jacksonville hopes to use the event to create awareness for its various mental health programs. The organization offers free support groups, peer mentoring programs for sufferers of mental illness, free educational classes for the families of those with mental illness, and educational programs for schools in Duval and St. Johns County. They also hold occasional lectures featuring guest speakers from the mental health care community.
Jacksonville sometimes receives criticism for its lack of mental health care options. By contributing to NAMI Jacksonville, we can help to put an end to that reputation.
