The Hyppo has become known throughout Florida for its popular gourmet ice pops, with shops located throughout the state. But St. Augustine residents will remember that the company began with a different specialty: coffee.
Now, the chain’s original location, The Hyppo Café, is set to get back to those roots when it officially re-opens Friday, August 3, as The Hyppo Coffee Bar.
The Hyppo Coffee Bar, located at 1765 Tree Blvd. #5 in St. Augustine, will offer a full line of coffee, espresso, and tea drinks, as well as wine and craft beer. They’ll also have fresh baked goods – and of course, the trademark ice pops.
Owner Stephen DiMare originally opened the café in May 2012 before expanding the gourmet ice pop concept.
“The Hyppo Café was originally conceived and installed as a coffee shop,” DiMare said. “Our sandwich offerings became so popular that we found ourselves in the restaurant business. Transforming the Café into The Hyppo Coffee Bar is an effort to return the store to its original concept; a cozy place to meet friends, spread out your study materials, or curl up with a good book.”
On Friday, in honor of the grand re-opening, there’ll be free coffee and tea available starting at 8 AM, as well as deals on beer and wine. Fried Chicken Kitchen and Feather + Bloom will be on-hand from 11 AM to 3 PM, and the celebration will be capped off by live music from 6 PM until close.
The coffee bar will be open from 8 AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 8 PM on Sundays.
