Ten years ago, Denise Dielwart’s husband Maarten passed away suddenly, leaving her stuck in a cycle of depression, loneliness, and isolation.
She tried therapy, group counseling, all the normal things people do to try to heal their mind – but nothing seemed to be working.
In her pursuit of moving on, Denise began studying grief and the methods people use to try to overcome it. She became a certified grief coach and developed a new method of therapy specifically for widows, which she calls the F.L.O.W. method, that she claims can speed up the process of moving past grief to “months instead of years” – and that helped her finally move forward as well.
For several years, Denise offered her therapy program online. But now, together with GP Eventworx, she’s created a three-day live retreat that is coming to Jacksonville in late September.
“The Widow’s Journey Beyond Grief,” as the program is titled, is designed specifically for grieving widows who are “ready to start healing themselves, live a joyous life, find their purpose, and rediscover who they are from the inside out.” Attendees will learn how to “heal from within” rather than allowing external factors to take over. They’ll also get a chance to be part of a group of like-minded people on the same path, working toward the same purpose: healing and growing beyond their grief.
“Grief is like lifting weights and exercising,” she says. “You must work past the pain to achieve the future you want.”
Denise is hoping that her program will be able to help local women do exactly that.
The Widow’s Journey program will take place from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Jax. Registration costs $497, with a $100 early-bird discount that will end soon.
