It’s Saturday, so it’s time again for our weekly update on development news around the First Coast.
Grocer Wars
Publix really, really doesn’t like being outdone. Just a couple of weeks ago, rival grocer Winn-Dixie opened its beautiful new flagship store in Point Meadows. Not wanting to lose ground in the area, Publix will begin work on a $650,312 renovation of its store at 10920 Baymeadows Rd — coincidentally located right across the street from the new Winn-Dixie. Ouch.
A permit for the project was issued yesterday, according to city records. Elkins Constructors, Inc. has the contract for the project.
New arrivals at the Town Center
According to several sources, the St. Johns Town Center will be adding a few new tenants in the near future. New-to-market Noodles & Co. will split the former Crispers location with Chicken Salad Chick. Renna’s Pizza has left its Town Center location, with plans to move to Baymeadows/Southside; in its place, build-your-own-pie concept store Pieology will open.
On the retail front, Francesca Collections will open a new location, and Uniformi-T, a uniform retail outlet, has already opened its doors.
Other tidbits
- According to city records, a permit has been issued for the $1.5 million build-out of a shopping center at 14035 Beach Blvd, the former site of Golden Corral.
- Rebounderz on Old St. Augustine Rd. will undergo a $1.1 million expansion aimed at turning the complex into a more comprehensive family fun center, according to jacksonville.com
