#904WKND is your weekly, curated guide to the most interesting things going on in Jacksonville this weekend.
Here are our picks for the weekend of June 23-25.
Sharks in the Playoffs
The Arena Bowl XXIV champion Sharks will now test out their playoff luck in their new league.
The team will play the Monterrey Steel in the first of two rounds of the National Arena League playoffs. The Steel were the only team to beat the Sharks this season, doing so just last week.
To prepare for the game, the Sharks brought in a new defensive coordinator: Damon Mason, the career tackles leader in the AFL. The team also signed receiver Joe Hills for their playoff run.
The game starts at 7:00 on Saturday night at the Veterans Memorial Arena.
“The First Pitch” charity event
Radio personality Frank Frangie’s Walkoff Charities is holding its first major fundraising event, “The First Pitch”, on Friday night.
The event will be held at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville starting at 5:30. Local media personalities, key figures, former professional athletes, and even Mayor Lenny Curry will be on hand for the event – and will also all be participating in a home run derby.
There’ll also be plenty of local food and craft beer, as well as a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased online at the charity’s website.
Rise Against and Deftones at Daily’s Place
There are still plenty of tickets available for the Rise Against and Deftones concert on Saturday night at Daily’s Place.
The show is part of the bands’ joint tour, and will also feature Thrice and Frank Iero and The Patience.
Doors open at 6:30 PM – tickets can be purchased at dailysplace.com.
