How Much Does $1,500 Get You in Jacksonville, FL?

For most young professionals just beginning to get their footing financially, spending big on an apartment rental simply isn’t an option.

One thing that makes Jacksonville appealing to people our age is the low cost of living. It’s fairly easy to find somewhere to live at a reasonable price here – something those of us from the area may take for granted. Other cities don’t have the same options.

RENTCafé recently took a look at how big of an apartment you could get for $1,500 per month in the country’s 30 most populated cities.

They compiled this into an infographic, seen below:

As you can see, Jacksonville provides more “bang for your buck” than many other highly-populated U.S. cities.

In fact, we were outranked by only six cities: Louisville, KY; Columbus, OH; El Paso, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Oklahoma City, OK; and Memphis, TN.

Memphis was #1, providing 1,948 square feet per $1,500.

Interestingly, according to the website’s statistics, the average apartment unit size in Jacksonville is 961 square feet, which ranks the largest among the 30 cities examined. This can be credited to the sprawling nature of development in Jacksonville, which means bigger buildings and thus bigger individual units.

The average apartment rent in Jacksonville is $909 per month, ranking tenth.

This certainly shows one of the reasons why young professionals are coming to Jacksonville more and more to start out their adult lives. It’s a relatively cheap place to live while still being in a populated and active city. You’ll also be more likely to find a spacious apartment that lets you spread out; you won’t ever feel cramped like you might in a New York studio unit.
