REVIEW: Liberty Bakery

The morning commute to work or school can often set the pace for the rest of your day. For many, that commute includes a quick stop for breakfast, usually somewhere quick and convenient. An unpleasant experience at your chosen restaurant can tank your day before it even starts.

That’s why morning customers love going to Liberty Bakery — they’re never at risk of even the slightest unpleasantness.

Located in a former Skinner Dairy hut off of Bowden Rd., Liberty Bakery is undoubtedly one of the best breakfast places Jacksonville has to offer, as we previously noted. While their small, drive-thru only location can serve as a disadvantage and may cause many residents to overlook them, those who give it a chance are rarely disappointed.

Their breakfast items include breakfast sandwiches available with egg, cheese, and bacon options. We recommend getting them on their sour cream biscuit; as blasphemous as it may be to say this, their biscuits may be on-par with Maple Street’s. Additionally they offer muffins, cinnamon rolls, and other breakfast staples.

They also offer several lunch sandwich options, as well as many tasty bakery items that rotate depending on the day; options are often announced on their Facebook page.

Liberty Bakery is very much a family-operated business. Husband and wife team Carol and Bob work the register and the kitchen with the help of one of their daughters. The staff is noted for their extremely friendly personalities, providing a sunny start to your workday.

Liberty’s location, of course, does work against them. It’s tucked away in an area with low visibility on Bowden Rd., and as mentioned, it is drive-thru only. However, there are benches nearby for anyone wishing to stop and eat, as well as plenty of space to pull over and munch away from inside your car.

The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, likely due to their limited staff and funds.

If you’re in the Southside area and in search of a delicious breakfast and friendly conversation, we highly recommend checking out Liberty Bakery.
