The Jacksonville Jaguars had the 29th pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, finding itself in the unusual position of drafting late – and of not having an urgent need to address.
The team selected Florida defensive tackle Taven Bryan with their pick.
So who is Taven Bryan, the newest Jaguar?
Bryan was born in Casper, Wyoming, where he attended Natrona County High School. During his high school career, he helped lead Natrona County to two state titles and was honored with several state-level awards.
He chose the University of Florida over Nebraska, Oregon, and Colorado among others.
After redshirting his first year, Bryan played in 12 games in 2015, returning a fumble 48 yards against Florida Atlantic. He played all 13 games in ’16, leading the Gators with two forced fumbles and recording 17 tackles.

Last year, he recorded 40 tackles and 4 sacks, and earned Second Team All-SEC honors. He opted to forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2018 draft.
Overall, he totaled 65 tackles, 4 sacks, and an interception over three years at UF.
Now he joins an already stacked Jags defense where he’ll add to the team’s collection of defensive tackles, including Malik Jackson, Marcell Dareus, and Abry Jones.
