You never know who might show up around the First Coast.
A particularly inebriated Jacksonville resident learned this lesson the hard way last weekend when he came across legendary R&B singer R. Kelly, a moment captured in a viral video that spread as far as TMZ this week.
The singer was in town for a performance at the Veterans Memorial Arena on May 26th, but this shirtless Jacksonville man was unconvinced.
In the video, shot by Jacksonville’s own DJ Dr. Doom, the man repeatedly insists that the guy at the hot dog stand who looks suspiciously like R. Kelly couldn’t possibly be the real deal. He even agrees to a $100 bet to Dr. Doom to back his “argument”.
Unfortunately for the man, R. Kelly was ready to prove himself. Having taken it all in stride, Kelly then breaks out into song, nailing a few bars of his song “Bump N Grind”.
The crowd gathered around the hot dog stand went wild. At Dr. Doom’s insistence, the drunk man then broke out into his own bizarre rendition of “Bump N Grind”. At one point, Kelly joined in to add a line about the man being “drunk as a mothaf***a”.
The man followed his performance by dropping his cigarette on the ground and mumbling something about being from North Carolina. (Go ahead, NC, you can lay claim to him for us.)
Oh, and of course he still didn’t believe it was really R. Kelly, and didn’t end up having to pay the bet.
You can watch the video below. Be warned: there’s strong language, and strong feelings of embarrassment, ahead.
