For many kids who grew up in the 1980s and ‘90s, video arcades were once a way of life. Keg & Coin in Riverside offers residents a chance to step back into that world, with a fun twist: the presence of fifteen rotating taps of craft beer.
The arcade-plus-taproom concept, located at 1269 King Street, is an offshoot of craft beer shop Beer:30, which operated in a portion of what’s now Keg & Coin for five years prior to expanding into the adjacent King Street Laundromat unit and relaunching in late 2017. The venue now features over thirty classic arcade games, including popular choices like Super Mario Bros, NBA Jam, and Ms. Pac-Man.

Other arcade staples like skeeball, foosball, and a wall lined with pinball machines are also offered, along with a giant Pong table honoring the classic Atari game.
The venue’s décor matches its retro theme, with various memorabilia hanging from walls and even the ceiling. Nostalgic T-shirts, classic toys, and memorabilia are available for purchase.
The bar, as mentioned, features fifteen rotating taps of craft beer along with a large collection of bottled and canned beer from over forty different brewerie. That collection, of course, includes local options like Aardwolf, Bold City Brewery, Engine 15, Green Room Brewing, Intuition Ale Works, Southern Swell, and Veterans United. The “package store” allows for purchasing a large selection of six-packs or other packaged brews.

The venue routinely hosts tournaments involving game play, with beer often serving as the winner’s prize. It also hosts cosplay events, pop-up shops, “brewery spotlights,” and weekly events like its Smash Bros meetup on Monday nights or retro console night on Tuesdays.

Keg & Coin is open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM daily; admission is limited to those over the age of 21 after 9:00 PM. For more information on the venue, check out kegandcoinjax.com.
