Local Clinic Offering Free MMJ License Consultations

Since the establishment of medical cannabis in Florida, thousands of qualifying Jacksonville residents have taken advantage of the new program to seek relief for various ailments.

But many others are still skittish for various reasons – one of the biggest of which is the perception that gaining a medical marijuana license is too expensive.

Depending on your path to gaining a license, the process certainly can end up being costly. But one local clinic is looking to significantly cut down on those costs.

Affordable Marijuana License Clinic has begun offering first-time consultation appointments free of charge for qualifying patients with medical documentation. In addition to the free consultation, AMLC will pay for a one-month initial supply of each qualifying patient’s medication – a deal that can end up saving patients hundreds of dollars.

Patients will still be responsible for the $75 application fee charged by the state when processing your license.

After the first month, AMLC patients will be able to request low-cost refills through AMLC’s online portal. They will only be required to come in for follow-ups every seven months, at a cost of $50 each visit.

The goal is to make medical cannabis treatment accessible to a larger number of Jax residents who may otherwise be unable to afford the costs of doctor visits and medication.

Affordable Marijuana License Clinic is led by Dr. Rene Pulido, a first-generation immigrant who attended Bishop Kenny High School and trained at the local Mayo Clinic. Dr. Pulido also heads Emed Multispecialty Group and the Northeast Florida Hispanic Medical Association.

“As a doctor and a father, it pains me deeply whenever someone is denied medical care,” says Dr. Pulido. “Those suffering from chronic conditions like ALS, Parkinson’s, HIV, glaucoma, cancer, PTSD, and epilepsy are among the most financially vulnerable and in some cases are being left behind, which is unacceptable. I’ve resolved to do everything I can to stop that, and providing affordable convenient relief with this program is only our first step.”

Dr. Pulido first began prescribing medical cannabis for cancer patients at his clinic, and after finding himself “astonished” by the positive results for his patients, he decided to launch AMLC.

“Everyone in our community deserves proper care,” adds Dr. Pulido.
