The board of local publicly-owned utility company JEA voted this afternoon to select a bid by Ryan Companies US, Inc., to develop its new company headquarters building at 325 W. Adams Street in downtown Jacksonville.

The new JEA building will cost an estimated $72.18 million to complete and will provide over 190,000 square feet of leasable office space. Notable features include a 6,300-square-foot rooftop patio, a 850-car parking garage including at least 30 electric vehicle charging stations, flex space including a 400-seat auditorium, and a 130-agent call center.

The Minneapolis, MN-based Ryan Companies beat out two other bids in the final round of voting. One would have seen the new JEA building anchoring the planned Lot J development at TIAA Bank Field, while the other would have added JEA to the second phase of Kings Avenue Station in San Marco.

The winning location at 325 W. Adams Street is centrally located in downtown Jax and puts the new JEA building next door to the Duval County Courthouse. Ryan Companies’ bid offered the quickest path to construction and was the only one that allowed JEA sole control of its parking spaces.

JEA’s current headquarters building at 21 W. Church Street was built in 1962; JEA has occupied it since 1989. The company would likely rent or sell the building once its new location is completed.

Site work on the new building is expected to begin in around six months, with a projected completion date of late 2021.
