The team behind The Bread & Board was already set to debut a new location within VyStar Credit Union’s new downtown building at 100 W. Bay Street. Now they will add a new concept within the building as well – this time on the rooftop.

Local restaurateurs Jonathan Cobbs and Dwayne Beliakoff plan to open Estrella Cocina, a new restaurant and bar featuring Baja Mexican and Southern California-inspired dishes, this spring on the rooftop of what was formerly known as the Life of the South building.

The seventh-floor rooftop location consists of 3,500 square feet of indoor space as well as 4,500 square feet of outdoor seating and event space. The space will seat 75 but can accommodate up to 500 people for special events.

“Inspiration for Estrella Cocina really stems from my travels and the time I was able to spend in Baja California and a number of beautiful western Mexico coastal towns like Vallarta, Sayulita, Zihuatanejo, and Escondido over the last two decades,” said Beliakoff. “My grandmother was Mexican and I was born and lived in southern California until my early teens so I’m very passionate about the area.”

“We love the synergy of what’s going on downtown and are thrilled to be a part of the revitalization of the urban core,” added Cobbs. “This rooftop space will offer one-of-a-kind food and be a great hang out spot to grab a cocktail or even host an event with panoramic views of the river and cityscape.”

Dana B. Kenyon Company served as the contractor for the project. RS&H and Micamy Design Studio collaborated on its design, which incorporates vibrant colors, rustic tile, and wood to create a “modern Baja feel.”
