Murray Hill is heating up.
As several local and regional companies look into expanding into the historic neighborhood, this week brings the news of local favorite Larry’s Giant Subs planning a new location along Edgewood Avenue.
We’ll explain this and more in today’s edition of Building Up Jax.
Subs and pizza in Murray Hill
Larry’s Giant Subs is coming to Murray Hill – but with a twist.
According to Jax Daily Record, the sandwich shop plans to open a new concept restaurant at 1050 Edgewood Ave. S.
The new restaurant will feature a full bar, a rustic interior, and wood-fired pizza. It’ll seat 125, including an outdoor patio area.
The company is applying for a zoning exception to allow for limited parking and liquor service.
More affordable housing in LaVilla
A permit was issued for the construction of an affordable housing development at 139 Jefferson St. E. in LaVilla.
The project, which has been planned since 2015, will be right down the street from another affordable housing project in development across from the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
It’s meant for use by seniors, and will have amenities such as a fitness center and a game room.
Noted projects
- San Francisco-based grocery delivery company Instacart has expanded to Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal. The service will provide grocery delivery services to the entire First Coast area.
- Smoothie King plans to expand its Jacksonville presence, adding a few new stores each year with a goal of around 25-30 stores, according to Jacksonville Business Journal.
- You may remember that EverBank was acquired by TIAA last year. This week, the company announced that EverBank’s headquarters will remain in Jacksonville no matter what – although whether it will retain the EverBank name is still being debated.
Whoops!
A quick correction from last week’s post: the shopping center that Pacific Grill is opening in is actually anchored by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, not its fellow Bloomin’ Brands chain Outback Steakhouse.
