BARNETT BANK DEVELOPMENT GETS DDRB OK

The proposed redevelopment of the old Barnett Bank building downtown has cleared a major hurdle toward becoming reality.

The project was approved this week by the Downtown Development Review Board. Once it begins construction, it’ll act as phase 1 of a larger project to completely revamp the Laura Street Trio buildings.

The historic Barnett Bank building will be converted into a mixed-use building featuring office space, 100 apartment units, retail space, and a ground-floor bank.

No word yet on when construction might begin.

NOTED PROJECTS

  • A permit was issued for the build-out of the future Walmart Neighborhood Market at 9550 Baymeadows Rd.
  • Maple Street Biscuit Co. received a permit for build-out of its future location at 8358 Point Meadows Dr.
  • The Mandarin South shopping center project continues to finish up, with Taziki’s Mediterranean Café receiving a permit for build-out.
  • CSX isn’t going anywhere any time soon, as they’ve received a permit to renovate their Northbank complex at a price tag of roughly $1.8 million.
  • Plans were filed this week for a future Wawa location at the corner of Blanding Blvd. and Collins Rd., bringing the total number of proposed locations up to 14.
  • FDOT plans to fill in several graveled spaces underneath and along the Acosta Bridge.
  • St. Vincents Medical Center submitted plans for a new 15,000 square foot medical clinic along 103rd St.
  • The Hyatt Regency downtown hotel, fresh off of sustaining significant damage from Hurricane Irma, sold this week for $109 million according to the Florida Times-Union.
  • Yet another food truck is giving the brick-and-mortar life a try. Catullo’s Italian will open at 1650 San Pablo Rd. S., according to the Florida Times-Union.
  • The Subway location at 140 W. Monroe St. closed this week. According to Jax Daily Record, the franchise owner blamed food trucks for the restaurant’s demise. Online reviews and anecdotal evidence would suggest that they had issues long before the new food truck court opened. Either way, the space will be taken over by former landlord Dalton Agency.
