The Jacksonville Icemen defeated the Orlando Solar Bears 6-2 this past Friday night at Veterans Memorial Arena.

Following their opening night victory, this brings the team to 2-0 to start the season.

The Solar Bears got off to a hot start in the first period, putting the Icemen in a 2-point hole going into the second off of goals from Michael Brodzinski and Hunter Fejes. But the Icemen would then score 6 unanswered points – 3 goals in the second period, 3 in the third.

Alexis D’Aoust was the star of the night, scoring 2 goals and assisting on 2 others. D’Aoust opens the season on a two-game goal streak, as does Cody Fowlie.

In addition to D’Aoust and Fowlie, Everett Clark, Wacey Rabbit, and new addition Garret Cockerill scored for the Icemen. Jack Glover, Kris Newbury (2), Dajon Mingo (2), Trey Phillips, Cameron Critchlow, Jake Randolph, Rabbit, and D’Aoust (2) all recorded assists.

Goaltender Mikhail Berdin had 23 saves, allowing nothing past him in the second and third periods.

The aforementioned new addition, defenseman Garret Cockerill, joins the team after beginning the season with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL. The team also added forward Alexandre Ranger who, incidentally, was claimed off of waivers from Orlando. To make room for the two new players, the Icemen waived Tyler Coulter.

Jacksonville will face off against the Atlanta Gladiators this Thursday night at 7:00 PM, followed by a game against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Friday night at 7:30 PM. Both of those games take place at Veterans Memorial Arena. They’ll then hit the road to face the Swamp Rabbits in Greenville on Sunday afternoon.
