Building Up Jax: Historic San Marco Square building up for lease; updates from The Strand

1974 SAN MARCO BLVD SEEKING NEW TENANT

Prime Realty is currently seeking a new tenant for the historic building at 1974 San Marco Blvd. Retail and restaurant concepts will be considered to fill the vacancy.

It was most recently occupied briefly by Melo’s Seafood and Steaks and Bohemian Lounge; Melo’s has since been evicted, and Bohemian Lounge is searching for a new location.

One possibility for the building is Flying Iguana, a Latin American restaurant concept from Al’s Pizza owner Al Mansur. Mansur originally wanted to open a Flying Iguana back in 2016 in the location now occupied by Industry West within San Marco Square, but the project ran into parking-related issues and was canceled. With the 1974 San Marco building already zoned for a restaurant, it would have a much easier path to approval.

WAYFAIR WAREHOUSE AT CECIL

As we noted yesterday, online retailer Wayfair has plans to occupy a 1.2 million square foot building within Cecil Commerce Center. 122 jobs are currently listed, with more expected in the near future.

CUBESMART BUILDING NEW BAYMEADOWS FACILITY

CubeSmart Self-Storage submitted plans for a new 37,950 square foot storage building directly adjacent to its current location at 8552 Baymeadows Rd. Their current building, which has in the past housed an AMC theater and a Gold’s Gym, would presumably be demolished once the new one is completed.

UPDATES FROM THE STRAND AT TOWN CENTER

The Good Feet Store, a national chain that specializes in arch supports, received a permit for build-out within The Strand at Town Center.

Meanwhile, Domu Ramen is celebrating its grand opening within the shopping center this weekend.

VALE FOOD CO. COMING TO BROOKLYN

Vale Food Co., a health-food restaurant and meal delivery service, received a permit for build-out at 90 Riverside Ave. in Brooklyn Station.

It’s set to take the unit previously occupied by Grabbagreen.

NOTED PROJECTS

  • Walmart is looking to hire around 350 workers to staff its future location at Durbin Park, which is expected to open later this year.
  • A permit was issued for the construction of a shell building at 10502 San Jose Blvd. The outparcel lot was previously the site of an Applebee’s restaurant, and sits in front of a soon-to-be-renovated Target location.
  • BodyBrite, a laser hair removal clinic, received a permit for build-out at 120 Everest Ln. within Promenade at Bartram Springs.
  • Indigo Float received a permit for build-out within the shopping center at 11111 San Jose Blvd.
