Wayfair Plans to Open 1.2 Million Square Foot Warehouse at Cecil Commerce Center

Just a year after online mega-retailer Amazon opened the doors at the first of its Jacksonville distribution centers, another major player in the e-commerce world will join them – and become their next-door neighbors.

Online home goods retailer Wayfair has contracted with Hillwood, the master developer of AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center, to occupy a 1.2 million square foot warehouse building to be constructed at 13483 103rd St. It’s expected to occupy over 100 acres of the 4,400-acre commerce center, and would be among the city’s largest warehouse buildings.

The project, which was briefly code-named Project Jaguar, had been subject to rampant speculation since some details were released in July as to what company was involved. But Wayfair tipped its hand this week, listing 122 future warehouse jobs in Jacksonville.

The new building will be adjacent to Amazon’s facility within Cecil. In addition to Amazon, Wayfair will join GE Oil & Gas, Bridgestone, Jinko Solar, Industry West, FedEx, Boeing, SAFT, Northrop Grumman, and the U.S. Navy as major tenants within AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center.

Founded in 2002 as CSN Stores, Wayfair sells home furnishings and home decor from over 10,000 brands. The Boston, MA-based company has around 10,000 employees. In addition to Wayfair, the company also owns the Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane, and DwellStudio brands.

The arrival of Wayfair marks yet another big investment in Jax from yet another big company – and pushes the city ever-closer to realizing its goal of being America’s logistics center.
