Award-Winning Canadian Band Sultans of String Coming to Mudville Music Room

Canadian instrumental band Sultans of String is coming to Jacksonville as part of their fundraising tour to benefit UNHCR, the United Nations’ refugee agency. The band will play at the Mudville Music Room at 3105 Beach Boulevard on Friday, January 25.

Sultans of String is known for playing an exciting blend of several genres from around the world, including but not limited to Spanish flamenco, Gypsy-jazz, Celtic reels, and Cuban rhythms. Their members, led by award-winning Canadian musician Chris McKhool, all have diverse musical backgrounds, allowing them to come together to create a unique blend of several cultures and genres.

Based in Canada, they’ve won three Canadian Folk Music Awards and have thrice been nominated for a Juno Award – the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy. They’ve also won several international awards for their mastery of world music.

The band is touring to raise money for UNHCR Canada, the Canadian branch of the UN’s agency for aiding refugees. They’re less than $300 away from their goal of $5,000. You can view their fundraising page here.

The show at Mudville is presented by Mudville Music Room host Ray Lewis and starts at 7:30 PM, and tickets will be available at the door for $15. You’ll also have the opportunity to make an additional donation toward the band’s fundraising goal.
