THEATRE JAX TO HOST 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

In celebration of its 100th birthday, Theatre Jacksonville will be hosting a Big Hat & Jazz Birthday Brunch on Sunday, March 22.

The brunch, catered by Anthony’s Gourmet Catering, will take place in San Marco Square in front of Theatre Jax from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. In addition to the food, a cash bar with sparkling cocktails will be available, as well as unlimited mimosas and poinsettias for $15.

Tickets are $45 for the general public and include one complimentary sparkling house cocktail; they can be purchased from the theatre’s website.

TWO TRAINS RUNNING, SPRING AWAKENING COMING TO PLAYERS AT THE SEA

Players by the Sea Theatre has two plays coming up on its schedule: rock musical Spring Awakening and drama Two Trains Running.

Two Trains Running, a drama by Black playwright August Wilson, features a cast led by Douglas Anderson junior Marlee Feacher as Risa the diner waitress. It runs from March 13 to 29.

Spring Awakening, a Tony Award-winning contemporary rock musical, deals with themes of oppression, abuse, and mental illness. Players’ adaptation will be directed by Bradley Akers and runs from April 24 to May 16.

Tickets for both can be purchased from the theatre’s website.

Players also recently added a violence and intimacy designer for the utilization of real swords and daggers in their stage choreography. Dr. Kate Busselle will fill the new role; she participated in last month’s staging of Romeo and Juliet.

ART WALK THEMED AROUND ST. PATRICK’S DAY

This month’s Art Walk, which is set to take place on Wednesday, is themed around St. Patrick’s Day. Featured performers include JFRD Pipes and Drums, Celtic Band, Aisling Grove, and the First Coast Wind Symphony. As always, over two dozen local businesses and vendors will be on hand, along with two drink stations at Hemming Park.
