Building Up Jax: Apartments, two hotels proposed in Jax Beach

SPRINGHILL SUITES PROPOSED NEAR JAX BEACH PIER

A new Marriott hotel is planned right next to the pier in Jax Beach.

Jax Pier Lodging submitted a rezoning request to the Jax Beach Planning Commission to allow for the development of a new 136-room Springhill Suites by Marriott at 412 N. 1st St.

The hotel would feature 600 sq. ft. of ground-floor retail space as well as an oceanfront restaurant and bar.

The project’s proposed site is currently home to The Pier Cantana and Sandbar.

DOLPHIN DEPOT SITE NEARING CONSTRUCTION

Dolphin Depot LLC submitted plans to redevelop a long-vacant property in Jacksonville Beach.

The 1.35-acre lot, which encompasses almost a full block between 1st and 2nd St. and 6th and 7th Ave., will be developed as a six-story hotel and apartment building, with ground-floor retail space as well as separate lobbies for the apartment and hotel.

The property was first purchased for redevelopment back in 2014. It has been vacant since 2013.

DEALERSHIP PLANNED IN PICKETVILLE

Chrysler Dodge Ram and Jeep Picketville will begin construction soon at 7030 Commonwealth Ave.

Plans were submitted for a 49,951 sq. ft. auto dealership on Commonwealth Ave. near I-295 in Northwest Jax. The Picketville location comes from the same team behind two other similar local dealerships on the Southside and in Arlington.

It will join Dunkin’ Donuts, Pediatric Associates, Publix, Wawa, Wendy’s, and several other tenants still to be announced.
