#904WKND – May 5 – 7, 2017

Introducing 904WKND, a new weekly article series posted each Friday morning presenting a list of the most interesting things going on this weekend in the Jacksonville area, as cultivated by our staff.

As the city gets ready for The PLAYERS Championship next week, it’ll be a relatively quiet weekend – but that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty to do!

Here are our selections for the best activities in the Jax area this weekend.

Brewery Grand Opening

Atlantic Beach Brewing Company, a new brewery in the shopping plaza at 725 Atlantic Blvd., will celebrate their grand opening on Saturday.

The brewery, which will be family- and pet-friendly, will have craft beer ready to be sampled as well as live music from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and again from 7 to 9.

The celebration starts at noon tomorrow. If you’d rather avoid the crowd, the brewery announced on their Facebook page that they’re having a soft opening today starting at noon.

Local Sports

Good news, sports fans: both the Sharks and the Armada are in town this weekend!

The Sharks will be taking on the Corpus Christi Rage at 7:00 on Saturday night at the Veterans Memorial Arena. They’ll be going for a seventh win in a row to start the season, which would set a franchise record for the team’s best-ever start. It’ll also be Military Appreciation Night at the arena.

Meanwhile, the Armada are also undefeated and will also be playing at 7 tomorrow. Their game will be at Hodges Stadium.

Wine and Spirits Festival

If you’re looking for something fancy to do this weekend, you should check out the Ponte Vedra Food, Wine and Spirits Festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday.

The event will be going on at the Ponte Vedra Cultural Center on Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Sunday from 2 to 7.

It’s not a cheap ticket – full VIP access will cost you $99. However, you can go to the food pavilion without a ticket by registering online.
