904VIEWS: Riverside Park

When the Riverside neighborhood was planned out, fourteen acres were set aside for a park that would be donated to the city.

While it’s been slightly shrunken down from its original layout, Riverside Park remains a pillar of the area well over a hundred years later.

The eleven-acre Riverside Park is the second oldest city park in Jacksonville, topped only by downtown’s Hemming Park. Adorned with many beautiful trees and a large pond with two fountains, the park provides one of the most scenic walking experiences in all of Jax.

In addition to the natural features, the park is home to a sizable playground area and a basketball court.

Along the College Street end of the park lies John Gorrie Dog Park, a relatively-new dog park that ranks among the city’s best.

Over the years, the park’s land has been encroached upon by several factors: the construction of I-95, the configuration of the corner of Post and Margaret streets, and the addition of the dog park. But it remains one of Riverside’s most treasured features, and the community has remained dedicated over the years to keeping the park in good condition.

We’ve chosen a few of our favorite photos from our walk through Riverside Park for your enjoyment.
