Huey’s Nashville Hot Chicken Opening Soon in Murray Hill

The growing food scene in Jacksonville’s historic Murray Hill neighborhood is about to gain another new eatery when Huey’s Nashville Hot Chicken opens at 1173 Edgewood Avenue S. later this month.

The new restaurant is a concept from Nashville native Hughes Brown and his family – including his wife, who grew up in Jacksonville. The family, which owned and operated Nashville’s Watermark Restaurant for over a decade, has moved back to Jax and decided to set up shop in Murray Hill with a new hot chicken-themed concept.

Huey’s Nashville Hot Chicken will feature a collection of Nashville-style hot chicken dishes, entrée salads, and Southern-themed sides designed to showcase the “spicy taste of Nashville” and made with free-range chicken, prioritizing the use of local ingredients. Its 3,100-square-foot space will feature seating for up to 100 guests, along with outdoor patio seating; given the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the restaurant will open at 25% capacity and plans to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing.

“We are very excited to be coming to Murray Hill, a neighborhood where you can feel the community support. We love this area and can’t wait to share a taste of our home with all of you,” said Hughes Brown. “There’s nothing like Nashville hot chicken, and we look forward to bringing that authentic flavor to Jacksonville for everyone to enjoy.”

Huey’s will take over a building that most recently housed Taco Bodega, a taco-centric concept from Maple Street Biscuit Company. It’s also previously been home to B Street Eats, Bold Bean, and Knead Bakeshop within the past decade. Brown’s new concept will look to provide the building with a consistent tenant and joins a commercial corridor within Murray Hill that features Maple Street Biscuit Co., Moon River Pizza, Fishweir Brewing Co., and more.

The restaurant is currently hiring staff for its kitchen and dining room with plans to open later this month. For more information, check out the restaurant’s website.
