REVIEW: The Fox Restaurant

If you often pass by the Shoppes of St. Johns Avenue on weekend mornings, you’ve probably occasionally seen long lines formed in front of one restaurant in particular.

The Fox Restaurant has long been a breakfast favorite among Avondale and Riverside residents.

As would be expected of a business in the Avondale area, The Fox is rich with culture. The walls of the diner are adorned with pop culture memorabilia such as dolls of Urkel and Mr. T, and signed photos of media figures such as Larry David.

Any spot not adorned with Americana is dedicated to drawings made by the restaurant’s youngest patrons – it’s very much a family-friendly atmosphere, frequented by many young families.

The location is decorated well, but it’s definitely not large enough to match the demand for seating on busy days. This is a problem faced by most breakfast places in Jacksonville, as there are so few truly good options around the city despite the significant demand.

The Fox serves a mix of breakfast and lunch options. The breakfast menu includes options such as steak and eggs, omelettes, and others, along with several a la carte selections. The lunch menu includes salads, burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches. (One of their sandwiches is actually named after Larry David.)

Basically, there’s something for everyone.

They seem to do both equally well – we had a burger and an egg and cheese biscuit sandwich, and both were fantastic.

The prices are fairly average, and well worth it given the quality of the food and service.

Good breakfast places are often difficult to find in Jacksonville – especially ones that also serve great lunch items. We definitely think The Fox Restaurant is one of the top options in the Riverside and Avondale area.

The Fox Restaurant is located at 3580 St. Johns Ave., and is open from 7 AM to 2:30 PM from Monday to Saturday (8 to 2:30 on Sundays).
