Building Up Jax: Project Volt would bring 800 jobs to Jax

PROJECT VOLT

An unnamed solar panel manufacturer is proposing the addition of 800 new jobs to the Jax community, according to the Florida Times-Union.

The report states that the company, being referred to as Project Volt in council legislation, seeks $24.6 million in incentives from the city to build an operation center in Cecil Commerce Center. It would become the company’s first facility in America, and thus their de-facto U.S. headquarters location.

It would invest $410 million of its own money into the venture. A vote on city incentives will occur next week.

WALK-ON’S LOCATION PLANNED FOR JAX

Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar, a sports bar concept co-owned by NFL quarterback Drew Brees, is planning to expand to Florida.

Jacksonville is already listed as a future franchise location on their website. As of right now, there’s no word on where that location will go.

GAS STATION NOTES

First Coast Energy, the parent company of Daily’s, received a permit to demolish a former Shell station at 5344 Ortega Blvd. They’re presumably planning on replacing it with a new Daily’s location.

Meanwhile, GATE’s new gas station and convenience store at the corner of Park and Forest St. in Brooklyn is now open.

NOTED PROJECTS

  • Hope’s Closet Thrift is set to take over the former hhgregg spot at 651 Commerce Center Dr. in Arlington.
  • St. Vincent’s / Ascension Healthcare plans to build a new urgent care center at 858 Monument Rd.
  • Plans were submitted this week for a new 19,787 square foot Aldi grocery store location at 8251 Old Middleburg Rd. S.
