Building Up Jax: Hyperion Brewing Company sets opening date

Check out the latest Jacksonville development and construction news in this week’s edition of Building Up Jax!

Hyperion Brewing Company announces opening date

Hyperion Brewing Company announced this week that its grand opening will take place on Friday, May 19 at 5:00 PM.

The Springfield brewery, located at 1740 N. Main St., will be offering a free glass and free beer ticket to the first 50 customers. Eddis and Sons food truck will be there providing food for the event.

Hyperion Brewing Company is a new brewery startup from owner Alexandra McKeown, and is one of two new breweries coming to the Springfield area. Main & Six Brewing Company will open down the street later this year.

Doubts rise as IDO opening date nears

Last week we mentioned that International Decor Outlet was adding a new AsianTown complex to its space at Regency Square Mall – and that their wing would be re-opening in the first week of April.

Now, with multiple stories in local media outlets discussing the implications of the six lawsuits recently filed against IDO, doubts are beginning to stir about whether the company will deliver on its ambitious project.

The lawsuits allege that IDO took money from Chinese manufacturers to create storefronts for them, but hasn’t actually built those storefronts yet.

Indeed, most of the IDO wing of Regency is still vacant, but a few stores are expected to be open at launch.

It’ll be interesting to see what the wing looks like on opening day – and if IDO’s big plans will become reality.

Noted projects

  • Local auto dealer Mike Shad has purchased the Delgado Building at 2544 Oak St., and plans to renovate the building, according to the Florida Times-Union. The renovated building will feature a handful of apartment units, a restaurant, and an electric bike shop.
  • The Tinseltown movie theater along Southside Blvd. will be getting a $2.5 million renovation, which according to multiple sources will involve the addition of electronic reclining chairs as well as a bar.
  • Gun lovers, rejoice: Shooters on University Blvd. is going to construct an indoor shooting range facility behind its current building.
  • Wendy’s at 8625 Baymeadows Rd. will be remodeled soon, having received a permit this week for $310,000 in alterations.
