Building Up Jax: FDOT plans Southside/Gate reconfiguration

FDOT PLANS TO FIX SOUTHSIDE/GATE INTERSECTION

FDOT submitted plans this week for a road widening and reconfiguration project on Southside Blvd. near the Gate Parkway intersection.

The plans involve widening Southside Blvd. near Gate Parkway and Tinseltown – an area that frequently backs up with traffic during peak hours.

It’ll also involve the addition of a second traffic light near the Gate Parkway intersection to improve traffic flow.

BAGELS R US EXPANDS TO MANDARIN

Bagels R Us received a permit for build-out in the shopping strip at 11629 San Jose Blvd.

It’ll be the local bagel joint’s second location – its other location is at 14185 Beach Blvd.

BARNETT BANK REDEVELOPMENT MARCHES ON

A permit was issued this week for the ongoing redevelopment of the old Barnett Bank building downtown.

The project’s total cost is listed at just over $22 million. It’s the first phase of the Laura Street Trio redevelopment project.

NOTED PROJECTS

  • Residence Inn at 10551 Deerwood Park Blvd. received a permit for its $2.7 million renovation project.
  • Whit’s Frozen Custard received a permit for build-out in the shopping center at 12525 Philips Highway.
  • Alcohol distributor Breakthru Beverage received a permit for office build-out at 8226 Philips Highway.
  • Walmart will remodel its location at 8808 Beach Blvd.
  • A permit was issued for the $18 million construction of the Town Center Two office building at 5335 Gate Parkway.
  • Hooters’ location at Jacksonville Landing will undergo an interior renovation.
  • Surterra Wellness received a permit for build-out at 537 Park St.
  • ALDI received a permit to build out its future location in the shopping center at 10950 San Jose Blvd.
  • Plans for a Pilot Travel Center at I-295 and Heckscher Drive show a 6,248 square foot Pilot Express convenience store and at least 11 pump stations.
  • Legacy Ale Works plans to open in the shopping center at 14965 Old St. Augustine Rd.
