Building Up Jax: Vista Brooklyn, Jackson Square, and Barnett Bank

Check out the latest Jacksonville development and construction news in this week’s edition of Building Up Jax!

Vista Brooklyn moving forward

Plans for Vista Brooklyn, a new luxury apartment complex at 200 Riverside Ave., were submitted this week to the St. Johns River Water Management District.

The plans call for 307 apartment units, an eight-level parking garage, a courtyard in the center of the building, and 13,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.

The retail spaces will face Riverside Ave., while the garage entrance will be at Magnolia St.

The development will be located right next door to the existing 220 Riverside luxury apartment complex, and also next to Brooklyn Station, a small retail center anchored by Fresh Market.

We’d actually previously noted this project when it was originally announced in December.

Combined with 220 Riverside and nearby complex The Brooklyn, it will add even more high-end living options to the fast-growing Brooklyn neighborhood.

Jackson Square? Not quite, but still…

The proposed Jackson Square project at the northernmost point of Philips Highway next to I-95 is now officially never going to happen.

However, according to the Florida Times-Union, it’s being replaced by a similar but much smaller project.

Chance Partners bought the project’s land for $4.7 million, and plans for a two-phase apartment complex project at the site. The project will include ground-floor retail along Philips Highway. It will, however, represent a significant scaling down from the originally-proposed Jackson Square.

They hope to finish phase 1 in 2019, by which point the Overland Bridge project will be long completed, adding increased accessibility to this stretch of Philips.

Barnett Bank work begins

Two permits were issued for renovation on the Barnett Bank building downtown at 112 W. Adams St.

The permits total about $600,000 of work. The contractor is Danis Builders, LLC.

The building has long been vacant – and deteriorating – but has been given a new hope for life as plans emerged to redevelop the building along with the Laura Street Trio buildings.

Closures in DT, 5 Points

Marks, the downtown bar and lounge at 315 E. Bay St., is closed as of this past Wednesday, according to an announcement made by the venue’s owner on Facebook.

Meanwhile, in Five Points, Kostas Pizza Italian also announced on Facebook that they’ll be closing their doors after over 40 years. Their last day in business will be June 10.

Noted projects

  • Collins Plaza will be getting two new retail shell buildings, combining for about 18,000 square feet of space, according to plans filed with the St. Johns River Water Management District.
  • A permit was issued this week for the build-out of Miami Grill at the old Zaxby’s location at 9575 Regency Square Blvd. N.
  • Roosevelt Square may be getting a PetSmart as part of its larger remodel project, according to Jax Daily Record.
