Building Up Jax: IDO vs. Regency, opening date for PDQ

Check out the latest Jacksonville development and construction news in this week’s edition of Building Up Jax!

IDO suing Regency owners

New drama in the International Décor Outlet saga: IDO is now suing Regency Square Mall’s owners, claiming that the property is in too bad of shape to properly redevelop.

This announcement comes a few months after IDO itself was named in a lawsuit by a Chinese organization claiming that the company failed to build out promised retail spaces. The company then countersued those organizations, claiming breach of contract.

From the outside, you can look at it two different ways. One possibility is that Regency’s owners leased away space that was broken down, and that’s why IDO couldn’t deliver the promised storefronts. The other possibility is that IDO is attempting to cover themselves by passing the buck.

Either way, it’s yet another disappointing turn of events for Regency, which has been in decline for quite some time now. If IDO ends up leaving, it may act as a final blow to the aging structure, prompting major redevelopment.

Opening set for PDQ at Town Center

PDQ’s fourth Jax-area restaurant is set to open at the St. Johns Town Center on July 30.

The restaurant, which specializes in freshly-prepared chicken dishes, is located at 4816 Gate Parkway. The new location will feature a drive-thru window, a dining room, and catering services.

It will be the brand’s 58th restaurant nationwide. The restaurant chain is notable for counting Jacksonville native Tim Tebow among its investors.

You can keep track of what’s opening – and when – with our running list of stores and restaurants coming to the Town Center.

Alfred Angelo creates bridal chaos

Bridal shop Alfred Angelo suddenly shut down this week, declaring bankruptcy and closing all of its stores nationwide effective immediately.

This means its Jacksonville location at 9344 Atlantic Blvd. is no longer operating.

If you’re one of the brides-to-be that’s affected by this closure, we recommend contacting the lawyer in charge of handling the bankruptcy chaos, Patricia Redmond of Miami.

Please be polite though, she’s not actually part of the company and is dealing with a bunch of angry brides right now!

Noted projects

  • The Five Guys location at 10061 San Jose Blvd. will be receiving a $280,000 facelift, according to city permit records. The chain has been there for around a decade – it was previously a Blockbuster Video store, back when those were still a thing.
  • A couple of different sources report that the long-planned Springfield restaurant Crispy’s will open in August.
  • Dollar General is coming in soon at 2777 University Blvd., according to Jax Daily Record.
  • Maple Street Biscuit Company will open a new location at 8358 Point Meadows Dr. in the fall, according to the Florida Times-Union.
  • Firehouse Subs’ first-ever airport location is now open at Jacksonville International Airport – and it serves breakfast!
  • The first stage of The District has been approved, and it will come in the form of a hotel along the Southbank. The hotel’s brand has not yet been disclosed.
