The Best, Most Refreshing Local Brews for Summer in Jax

There’s no better time than summer to sit back and enjoy a nice, cold beer. And of course, when you do so, you’ll want to support one of Jacksonville’s many local breweries.

But which local beers are the best for a hot summer day?

Well, we’ve put together a list of local brews that we think are perfect for summer in Jax. Be sure to give them all a try – and let us know which one is your favorite!

904 Weissguy at Engine 15 Brewing Co. (4.4% ABV)

Engine 15’s 904 Weissguy is an American wheat ale inspired by hefeweissen brews. It’s light but crisp and has hints of orange, making it a perfect summer beer.

It’s one of the brewery’s most popular items, available year-round at their two locations and various beer stores around the city.

Big John’s Apricot Wheat at Bold City Brewery (4.5% ABV)

A seasonal offering, Big John’s Apricot Wheat from Bold City Brewery is an American pale wheat ale with strong apricot notes.

It’s available only during the summer at Bold City Brewery’s tap rooms.

Shrimp Boat Kolsch at Intuition Ale Works (4.7% ABV)

Recently introduced this spring, the Shrimp Boat Kolsch from Intuition Ale Works is a collaboration with the Jumbo Shrimp. It’s a light, citrusy brew that’s made with a Jumbo Shrimp gameday experience in mind.

The Shrimp Boat Kolsch is available throughout the baseball season at Intuition and the Baseball Grounds.

J’Ville Lemon Shandy at Engine 15 Brewing Co. (4.0% ABV)

Another offering from Engine 15, the J’Ville Lemon Shandy adds a healthy helping of lemon juice to the brewery’s popular J’Ville Lager. The addition of lemon flavor to the light, refreshing lager makes for an excellent summer shandy.

This one is available at Engine 15’s two tap rooms. Or you could buy a J’Ville Lager and add lemon juice to it yourself – but it’s not quite the same.

Pablo Beach Pale Ale at Green Room Brewing (5.0% ABV)

The strongest of this summer collection, Green Room’s Pablo Beach Pale Ale is a golden American pale ale with citrus flavors and a light bitterness. While for some, a pale ale may seem too heavy for a summer day, its flavor makes it a perfect fit for a day at the beach.

It’s available all year at Green Room’s tap room at the beach.

  • Did the deadline come too soon and we didn't get a chance to get to the other breweries in town?

I feel like this article is incomplete.

    • Nope, just a quick short list of great summer brews. Many of the other breweries in town focus on bolder flavor profiles, not necessarily summer specialties.
