A Chat with Local Artist Alma Ramirez

Local artist Alma Ramirez excels at capturing the natural beauty of Jacksonville’s nearby bodies of water in her paintings.

Ramirez’s work reflects a contemplation of nature and her surroundings. Her artistic process is based on the interplay of color and composition, and she describes her style as contemporary abstract.

Born in Mexico, Ramirez earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from Chihuahua’s Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, and she spent time living in Germany prior to moving to Jax.

Her work has been exhibited in national and international contemporary art galleries and is currently featured in local galleries such as The Vault 1930 in San Marco and Art on Centre in Fernandina Beach, as well as regional galleries in St. Augustine, FL, Naples, FL, Laguna Beach, CA, Dallas, TX, and more.

WHAT, IN YOUR WORDS, IS THE BEST THING ABOUT JACKSONVILLE?

“Always by the water. I especially enjoy walking by the beach or river in the afternoons, the colors of these moments are very inspiring for my art.”

“Having better Mexican food”
