Jax Lands FSU’s Home Opener vs. Boise State in 2019

Florida State fans in Jacksonville have it pretty good already, with their school of choice lying just about two hours away.

But in 2019, it’ll get even better as the Seminoles will open their football season right here in Duval County.

JAXSPORTS Council announced yesterday that FSU will kick off their 2019 football season at TIAA Bank Field against the Boise State Broncos.

The game is set for Labor Day Weekend 2019, with exact details on start time to come later. It’ll be the first time the Noles have played in Jax in over a decade.

It’ll also be the first time the school has ever faced Boise State in football, and the first of two planned matchups in a span of two years between the two based on a contract signed in 2013.

The Jacksonville opener was apparently set in stone as early as 2016, but was kept under wraps until this week. Mayor Lenny Curry has indicated that incentives were offered to bring the game to Jax, but didn’t specify what was offered.

An FSU game – especially a season-opener – is a huge draw for JAXSPORTS. It combines a passionate Noles fanbase in Jax with folks making the quick trip from Tallahassee, promising large crowds each time. An FSU-Alabama game here actually set a stadium attendance record, drawing over 85,000 fans to TIAA Bank Field.

It also generates important economic activity for the city. JAXSPORTS indicated that a neutral-site game between Navy and Notre Dame brought in an estimated $30 million for the local economy.

Tickets will go on sale in 2019, but FSU students can request tickets as early as November 1 and will get first priority for ticket sales.
