Building Up Jax, 4/2: More upgrades for the Jags

In this week’s Building Up Jax, we note a few things that were announced during a fairly quiet week overall.

Everbank Development Continues

As part of their $90 million investment for upgrades at the Everbank Field downtown, the Jaguars announced this week that the stadium’s south end zone would undergo remodeling, including the creation of a new team entrance for the Jags. They’re also working on finalizing plans for new club seating that would be adjacent to the team entrance, allowing those fans to interact with the players as they come through.

Most of the improvements that have been announced, the south end zone project included, are expected to be completed by the time the 2016 season begins.

TEDxJAX’s New Home

TEDxJacksonville, the popular local affiliate of the national TEDTalks program, will have a new home when it returns for its fifth annual conference this year. The group announced that they will hold this year’s conference at the Florida Theatre, which has double the capacity of its previous home. This year’s conference commences on Saturday, October 22.

Another Breakfast Option?

We just profiled a few great places to get breakfast in Jacksonville, but we may have another option coming to town soon. A knowledgable source at the popular Orlando-based restaurant Keke’s stated that there are plans to bring the brand to Jacksonville. No site has been chosen yet, but the plan is to expand here within the next few years along with further expansion in the central Florida area as well.

In other breakfast-related news, Jacksonville’s last remaining Village Inn location on San Jose Blvd. will shut down, according to First Coast News. No word yet on what will take its place. Employees have been offered the chance to transfer to the chain’s St. Augustine location.

Other Notes

  • Blackfly Outfitters will open at 11702 Beach Blvd. according to city records.
  • Discount grocer Save-a-Lot will open on University Blvd. W. near Winn-Dixie, according to Jax Daily Record. The chain recently opened a location on San Jose Blvd. in February.
  • The Starbucks in Concourse A of the Jacksonville International Airport will be remodeled, via jacksonville.com.
  • A large multi-use development will go in at 704 First St. at the beach, according to jacksonville.com. It will feature apartments, hotel rooms, and ground-level retail.
