Building Up Jax: Downtown demolition scheduled; The Mini Bar expanding to Southside

DEMOLITION OF CITY HALL ANNEX SCHEDULED

A date has been set for the demolition of the former city hall annex building at 220 E. Bay St.

The building will be imploded on Sunday, January 20 at 8 AM. Several adjacent blocks will be closed to traffic, and anyone who will be in the area is recommended to stay inside.

The building required specialized pre-demolition work due to the presence of toxic materials like asbestos.

The old county courthouse building will be demolished, in normal fashion, later in the year.

THE MINI BAR TO OPEN IN SOUTHSIDE NEXT YEAR

The Mini Bar has announced that it will join the Gateway Village at Town Center development, where its second location will open in 2020.

The mini-donut and coffee shop opened its first location last year at 1300 Beach Blvd.

SPROUTS RECEIVES PERMIT AT TOWN CENTER

Sprouts Farmers Market received a permit this week for its build-out within The Markets at Town Center.

The new-to-market grocer’s renovations to the former Best Buy location at 4873 Town Center Pkwy. are valued at $2.5 million. Catamount Constructors, Inc. is the listed contractor.

NOTED PROJECTS

  • Maddy D’s Sweets and Confections will open its first brick-and-mortar location on the ground floor of the Courthouse Garage at 116 N. Pearl Street.
  • A building at 13997 Beach Blvd. is being demolished to prepare for a new AutoZone location to be built at that site.
  • Jumpin’ Jax House of Food has officially opened within the Atlantic Village shopping center at 953 Atlantic Blvd. It’s the eatery’s second location.
  • Potter’s House Soul Food Bistro is planning to move from its location at 11876 Atlantic Blvd. to the Regency Park shopping center at 9400 Atlantic Blvd.
