Building Up Jax: JCPenney closing at Regency Square Mall

JCPENNEY CLOSING REGENCY LOCATION

JCPenney has announced that its location at Regency Square Mall will be one of over 150 to shut its doors permanently as a result of bankruptcy proceedings.

The department store chain was one of the mall’s original tenants when it opened in 1967. It was also the last remaining anchor store within the mall’s east end, which is the only portion currently open to the public. Dillard’s Clearance Center continues to operate at the mall’s west end, but entry to the mall from Dillard’s has long been blocked.

Impact Church is currently working on converting the east end’s other anchor spot into a new church campus.

APARTMENTS COMING TO NORMANDY AND LENOX

Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting Corporation, through 7002 Normandy LLC, submitted plans for a 13-building residential development between Normandy Blvd. and Lenox Ave.

Plans include 13 three-story apartment buildings, a two-story mixed-use building, and over 20,000 sq. ft. of recreation space. The complex will be accessible through Normandy Blvd. or Lenox Ave. The project is the second phase of a two-phase project; the previous phase involved the addition of a medical building.

Summit Contracting Group received a permit for renovations to the first and second floors of an existing office building at 7595 Baymeadows Way.
Play Factory and Café received a permit for build-out at 12233 Sago Ave.
Sonny’s BBQ received a permit for renovations at 1923 Lane Ave. S.
UBS Financial Services received a permit for build-out within Town Center One at 5555 Gate Pkwy.
Harbor Freight received a permit for build-out within the San Jose Plaza shopping center at 10950 San Jose Blvd.
USA Food Industry Bakery received a permit for build-out within The Pavilion at Durbin Park.
