Building Up Jax: Coggin Chevrolet redeveloping showroom; zoning updates

Building Up Jax is a weekly article series, posted each Saturday morning, that provides you with the latest updates on development and construction in the greater Jacksonville area.

Coggin Chevrolet redeveloping, expanding showroom

Coggin Chevrolet is reconfiguring its existing facilities near The Avenues.

The Chevy dealer submitted plans this week to redevelop its existing dealership location at 10880 Philips Hwy. Those plans show a 50,394-square-foot expansion built around its existing sales and service center, adding 10,605 square feet of sales space, 38,541 square feet of service space, and a 1,248-square-foot car wash facility.

Two other existing structures would be demolished as part of the project.

Zoning updates

Several projects were granted final zoning approval at last week’s city council meeting, including:

  • The city approved a zoning exception to allow for the redevelopment of a vacant lot at 1352 Main St. N. into a food truck park and “snoball ice cream” shop. An existing 1,200-square-foot structure would be utilized for food and drink sales.
  • Hart Resources received final approval to develop a 140-lot single-family community at 2835 Stratton Rd.
  • Rezoning approval was granted to allow for the development of a group care facility with up to 30 buildings on 17.8 acres at 2300 Bartram Rd. S.
  • Alterra Group received final approval for the development of Belfort Landing, a 60-unit townhome development along Belfort Rd. near Hogan Rd.
  • Blue Ribbon Realty received final approval for the development of a 58-unit single-family subdivision at 3651 Jones Rd.

Noted projects

  • Industry West received a permit for $1.7 million in renovations to an existing building at 1001 Kings Ave. The company plans to relocate to the building from its existing location within San Marco Square.
  • Triangle Lake Investments submitted plans for Wells Creek Apartments, a nine-building, 360-unit multifamily apartment complex along US-1 near Florida 9B.
  • Commercial Roofing Specialties submitted plans for a new retail building at the corner of Florida Ave. and E. 8th St.
