Local makeup artist Noreen Young is here with some tips to help out any women about to interview for a job.
When going on a job interview or to a special event or meeting, you always need to put your best face forward.
Ladies, here are some helpful tips for you.
Do not go overboard on your makeup, but do not underdo it either. You want to even out your complexion, define your eyes and brighten up your cheeks and lips. To be taken seriously, especially if you look young for your age, looking polished is key.
Don’t wear false eyelashes. If you do, make sure they are short and not flamboyant. Applying for a job in beauty is one thing; a legal office or hospital is another.
If you have time, get a fresh manicure and pedicure. Don’t select glittery types or very bold hues. Choose pinky nude or nude beige; they always look professional. “Ballet Slippers” by Essie brand is perfect.
A fresh haircut or trim is necessary. Do not throw your hair up in that safe-but-disheveled looking ponytail or hair clip. Don’t change your hair color to a hot pink or purple tip hue either unless you are applying for a job in the beauty or hair business.
Choose a wardrobe with colors that are more solid and wear a monochromatic look.
Wear a watch to glance at the time if you need to.
Pearls are always a good idea when it comes to necklaces, bracelets or earrings. Don’t wear clunky jewelry or big earrings. Let the attention be on you, not noisy or over-the-top fashion accessories.
Bring out your best-looking handbag and shoes. People will look at you from head to toe.
Don’t be attached to or hold your phone. Leave it in your purse or briefcase.
Bring a notepad and pen with you. Be ready for any note-taking or application you may need to fill out.
Don’t go to a job interview hungry or too full from a big meal. Your stomach will be growling and you will be hungry, or you will feel lethargic.
EVERY detail of your appearance counts. First impressions are lasting impressions.
Wishing you best of luck in your job interview or for that very special meeting.
