Jacksonville Demographics, as Shown by Infographics

Jacksonville is a city that’s much larger and much more diverse than people often realize.

We’ve taken some interesting statistics about the city of Jacksonville, curated from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2014 American Community Survey, and turned them into infographics.

Jacksonville’s Population

Jacksonville is actually rather large, with a population on par with that of San Francisco, CA and Austin, TX.

It’s worth noting that people aged 20 to 36 made up 23% of the city’s population in 2014. This figure has almost certainly grown since the last estimate, and is expected to continue to grow for years to come.

Diversity

Jacksonville has a more diverse population than the average southern city. Perhaps most notable is the city’s Asian population; residents of Asian background make up 4.5% of Jacksonville’s population.

Another surprising fact: 111,246 residents were born outside of the U.S. That means roughly 1 in every 8 Jacksonville residents is an immigrant, making the city a cultural melting pot (and Donald Trump’s worst nightmare).

Other facts

We found some other pretty interesting facts about Jacksonville and its residents. For example, did you know that 15% of Jacksonville residents don’t have access to a computer in their household? In a world where so much of what we do is centered around computers and the internet, it’s pretty hard to imagine this.

Only about 1% of residents are able to walk to work. This has a lot to do with how spread out the city is; this also explains why the average commute to work takes just under 25 minutes.

Have any cool Jacksonville stats that you think would make a great infographic? Let us know in the comments section, we’ll include it in our next round of graphics!
