The Bread & Board will open its third location this summer within VyStar Credit Union’s new downtown headquarters.
The popular sandwich and sandwich board eatery is set to occupy 7,200 square feet of ground-floor space within the former Life of the South building at 100 W. Bay Street, which is currently being converted into a portion of VyStar’s new campus. 5,000 square feet will be dedicated to The Bread & Board, which will feature a menu of made-to-order sandwiches and sandwich boards as well as salads and other entrees.
The remaining 2,200 square feet will be dedicated to Bread & Board Provisions, a specialty marketplace featuring grab-and-go items prepared fresh daily. The eatery will partner with other local food and drink suppliers to fill the marketplace; so far, partners include Good Dough, Alewife, Bee Friends Farm, Layered: Cakes & Sweets, Martin Coffee, Saturiwa Trading Company, and BARK Urban Dog Boutique.
“We are excited to have been approached by VyStar about leasing the space, and for the chance to expand our restaurant concept to create this farmers-market bazaar of sorts,” said Dwayne Beliakoff, who co-founded The Bread & Board with Jonathan Cobbs. “Our specialty marketplace, Bread & Board Provisions, will help fill a growing need in downtown by giving residents, business crowds, hotel guests and more than 1,000 VyStar employees both a new restaurant and boutique carry-out experience. It’s been designed to be an alternative to a traditional campus food court. The market will allow guests to immerse themselves in the best tastes, retail and authentic experiences from top local vendors, artisans, specialty purveyors, pastry chefs and craft beer certified Cicerones.”
The eatery will join Tossgreen and Peterbrooke Chocolatier within the VyStar headquarters complex, which also includes the adjacent VyStar Tower building.
“As we continue settling into our new home downtown and building out our VyStar Campus, we are committed to finding creative ways to bring the community together,” said Brian Wolfburg, president and CEO of VyStar Credit Union. “We are eager to forge partnerships with local businesses such as The Bread & Board that have a shared vision of contributing to a more dynamic Downtown Jacksonville by stimulating the local economy and growing a tightknit community that can be enjoyed by all.”
The Bread & Board’s unit is being designed by Thomas Duke Architecture, P.A. and Micamy Design and will utilize repurposed local timber as well as a cool coastal color palette.
The lease agreement was facilitated by Amanda Kinkade of Kinkade Commercial and Katy Figg and Nancy Sumner of Colliers International Northeast Florida.
