Building Up Jax, 2/11: Food Truck Court Coming to Downtown, Doro District, and more

Downtown Jacksonville is kicking off 2017 with a promising slate of new development.

In addition to the big news from last week about the historic Laura St. Trio and Barnett Bank buildings, this week brings even more new, intriguing downtown projects.

A Home for Food Trucks in #DTJax

Downtown Jacksonville will soon have a dedicated space to accommodate the city’s many amazing food trucks.

According to the Florida Times-Union, The Block Food Truck Court will open downtown on February 23.

The food court will be located next to the SunTrust building’s parking garage on Hogan St. It will feature a rotating collection of food trucks, with four being featured each weekday from 11 AM to 2 PM.

It will also be open for events such as Art Walk, and the goal is to eventually provide regular evening hours as well.

Doro District

The George Doro Fixture Co. building next door to Intuition Ale Works’ new downtown location will soon be getting a major revamp.

This past week, the details of plans to redevelop the property were released. The project is expected to include retail space, office space, open-air recreation space, and a bowling alley with a bar and kitchen.

The developers, Iconic Real Estate Investments LLC, hope to complete the first stage of the project by early 2018. The combination of the Doro property and Intuition’s building, which sit adjacent to downtown’s sports district, will be referred to as the “Doro District”.

Coffee and Puppies!

Dog lovers, unite!

This morning, Jacksonville Dog Café celebrates its opening at 5535 Roosevelt Blvd.

The nonprofit café will be open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, and will offer visitors the opportunity to play with rescued dogs who are looking for a forever home.

Anyone is welcome to come play with the pups without any commitment to adopt – but obviously, the goal is to find homes for these dogs.

Noted projects

  • A permit was issued this week for build-out of The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops’ kiosk coming to the San Marco Train Station project on Hendricks Ave.
  • Wendy’s has submitted modified plans for the redesign of their Five Points location, according to Resident Community News. The revised plans will be up for review in March.
  • Kazu Sushi Burrito will open its second Jacksonville location at 117 W. Adams St., according to Modern Cities. Its first location off of Butler Blvd. opened last year.
  • Vitality Bowls will open at 1516 3rd St. N. this spring, according to the Times-Union.
