Building Up Jax is a weekly article series, posted each Saturday morning, that provides you with the latest updates on development and construction in the greater Jacksonville area.
The District is finally moving forward – again.
The long-planned development along the Southbank cleared an important initial milestone this past week, with The District Community Development District closing on a $35.6 million bond and clearing the path for infrastructure construction to begin early next year. The CDD will be used for public utility and stormwater management, new parking at the county school board building, riverfront parking, and roads to accommodate the development of The District, a lifestyle-centric master-planned community. It will also fund an extension of the Southbank Riverwalk, three new riverfront parks, a kayak launch, and a water taxi stop.
The project, being developed on the former site of JEA’s Southside Generating Station, has been in various stages of planning since at least 2015. It was taken over recently by Dallas-based Preston Hollow Capital, who acquired The Elements Development of Jacksonville from local developers Peter Rummell and Michael Munz.
Restoration Hardware is ready to build at St. Johns Town Center.
The luxury furniture retailer received a permit for the construction of its new three-story, 48,000-square-foot building at a cost of $18 million. The store will feature a rooftop restaurant and bar and will be RH’s first location in the Jacksonville area. The chain previously operated an outlet store near The Avenues.
The new store will be located along Village Shops Way behind Tory Burch and Apple. It will be part of the Town Center’s final phase, which is also expected to include an entertainment element.
