Building Up Jax: Daily’s expands, Fanatics scores big investment

Check out the latest Jacksonville development and construction news in this week’s edition of Building Up Jax!

Daily’s stays active

The Shell station at 5640 San Jose Blvd. has closed in preparation for its conversion to a Daily’s convenience store and gas station – and permits were issued this week to begin work on the project.

Meanwhile, a source at Daily’s says that the station being built in the parking lot of the Bailey’s Health & Fitness at 9545 San Jose Blvd. could open as early as the end of the month. Daily’s purchased the land, including the Bailey’s building, last year. The Bailey’s entrance was relocated to face Sunbeam Rd. in preparation for the Daily’s station.

The company is also remodeling its location at 4991 Gate Parkway – which is just down the street from its St. Johns Town Center location – to include a Daily’s Dash kitchen.

And of course, the company is preparing for the grand opening of Daily’s Place, the new flex-field and amphitheater attached to EverBank Field, which is expected later this month.

Fanatics scores NFL investment

The NFL has purchased a 3% share of Jacksonville-based Fanatics.

The sports apparel company, which began as Football Fanatics in The Avenues back in the ‘90s, is now worth over $3 billion. In addition to the NFL, Major League Baseball also owns equity stake in the company.

Noted projects

  • Two retail buildings are planned for Atlantic North, but as of yet no tenants have been announced. The retail center features Belk, Earth Fare, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and LA Fitness.
  • Permits were issued for the construction of future Wawa locations on Wilson Blvd. and at the St. Johns Town Center.
  • Publix continues to remodel the majority of its Jacksonville-area stores. Next up on the list: the one at 10500 San Jose Blvd. It’s one of the city’s largest Publix locations, having originally been an Albertsons prior to them exiting the Jax market.
  • Gander Mountain has declared bankruptcy, meaning its location at River City Marketplace may be in jeopardy. For now, the company claims that the Jax store will be spared from at least the first round of liquidation.
  • Roadwork has begun on Hendricks Ave. and San Jose Blvd., from San Marco to Miramar, with the goal of making the roadway safer for bikers and pedestrians.
  • The old Pier 1 Imports building at 9395 Atlantic Blvd. will be demolished, with plans for a Chipotle to be built in its place.
  • Chick-fil-A received a permit to remodel their location at 4495 Roosevelt Blvd.
  • Wendy’s will be building a new location at 9510 Applecross Rd.
