This week, we have several updates about local restaurants: some moving, some redesigning, and some just starting out.
Also, we have great news for fans of convenience store and gas station chain Wawa!
All that and more in this week’s edition of Building Up Jax.

It’s been a busy week in restaurant news around the First Coast.
Let’s run through all of the new developments:
- According to multiple sources, a ground-floor restaurant and rooftop bar are planned for 1000 Riverside Ave. The restaurant will be called River & Post.
- Domino’s is moving from its current Miramar location down the street to 5025 San Jose Blvd.
- Your Pie will open soon in the shopping center at 13423 Beach Blvd.
- Three local Ruby Tuesday locations received permits for pending remodels.
- Jimmy Hula’s plans to develop a location at the Oakleaf Town Center, according to Jax Daily Record.
- Good Dough Artisan Doughnuts and Coffee will open soon at 1636 Hendricks Ave., also according to the Daily Record.
We’re looking forward to Good Dough the most – the pictures on their Facebook page are making us hungry!
More Wawa!
Wawa fans, get ready: it looks like there are even more locations coming to the First Coast.
According to Jax Daily Record, Wawa is looking at two more spots for future locations in Jacksonville. The spots are at 5735 Philips Highway and 13363 Beach Blvd.
The Philips Highway location is currently the site of an abandoned car dealership, and sits at the busy Philips/Bowden Rd. intersection.
The Beach Blvd. location is near Hodges Blvd., and just down the road from another planned Wawa.
Additionally, the Southside Estates shopping center at the intersection of Beach and Southside will be partially demolished to make room for a new Wawa, also according to the Daily Record.
In total, Wawa plans to open around 40 locations in Jacksonville.
Noted projects
- Construction is moving forward on the future Daily’s station at 9551 San Jose Blvd., with permits totaling $1.54 million being issued for the project this week.
- Skechers will open an outlet location in the Regency Pointe shopping center at 9450 Atlantic Blvd. The spot was previously occupied by Office Depot, which had moved there from a smaller location in the same center. It closed shortly after the move.
- Atlantic Beach Brewing Company plans to open at 725 Atlantic Blvd., according to the Florida Times-Union. It’ll add to Jacksonville’s already-packed brewery scene.
